COURSE HISTORY
Since 1939, Tanunda Pines Golf Club has been at Pioneer Avenue, Rowland Flat. The course was extended in 1958 and hosted its first Pro-Am in 1979 with Wayne Grady and Ian Baker-Finch. A new clubhouse was built in the late '90s near the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort. Sold to Seven Under Pty Ltd in 2003, it was renamed Tanunda Pines and maintained high standards. In October 2022, Balmoral Resort (Australia) Pty Ltd took ownership and began significant upgrades.
Course Layout and Design
The course features a beautifully designed 18-hole course that balances challenge and playability. The layout takes advantage of the Barossa Valley’s natural terrain, with strategically placed hazards and well-maintained fairways. The course's fast greens and thoughtful design create an engaging experience for golfers of all skill levels.
Signature Holes
Tanunda Pines Golf Club's signature holes showcase the course’s unique charm.
Strategic play on the double dogleg par 5, 10th hole pays off. Big hitters can go for the green in two with a power fade followed by a draw. Beware of the green’s front left, which funnels balls toward the bunker. For back pin placements, approach by running the ball over the mound known locally as Mt. Albert.
Take a moment to catch your breath after the climb to the elevated tee of the par-3 13th hole, nestled among the gum trees. From here, you can enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards and the course stretching out below. Club selection is crucial due to the significant drop from tee to green. A miss to the right or left will present a challenging recovery—either from the sand on the right or the mounding on the left.
Course Conditions
Tanunda Pines Golf Club consistently maintains excellent course conditions. The fairways are lush and well-kept, while the greens are fast and true, providing a superb playing surface. Regular maintenance ensures that bunkers are well-groomed and hazards are clearly defined.
Tanunda Pines may lack the high quality of the private clubs in Adelaide, but it makes up for it with the charm of a quintessential ‘Aussie’ course with the unique aspect of playing alongside native bird and animal life, one hundred year old gum trees and views over Jacob’s Creek and St Hallett vineyards from several vantage points.
