A RICH HISTORY
Royal Adelaide Golf Club boasts a storied history that spans over a century. The course has evolved significantly since its inception, with major redesigns by esteemed golf course architects like Dr. Alister MacKenzie in the 1920s, and more recently by Tom Doak and his Renaissance Golf Design team. This rich heritage is reflected in the club's timeless design and reputation as a host for prestigious tournaments, including the Australian Open and the Women's Australian Open.
Course Layout and Design
The Royal Adelaide Golf Course is a par-72 championship course that stretches over 6,650 meters from the championship tees. It is known for its strategic design, which incorporates natural sand dunes, rolling fairways, and well-placed bunkers. The course demands precision, strategic thinking, and creativity, making it a true test of golfing skill.
Each hole on the course offers a unique challenge, with varying lengths, hazards, and elevation changes. The layout seamlessly blends the natural landscape with traditional links-style features, providing a visually stunning and technically demanding golfing experience.
Signature Holes
Several holes at Royal Adelaide stand out for their exceptional design and challenge. The short par-4, 3rd hole is particularly notable, featuring a narrow fairway, a green protected by a deep swale and rough covered grassy knolls around the green, with no bunker in sight.
The 7th hole features a distinctive ring of bunkers guarding the front of a green that slopes sharply from back to front. It can be visually intimidating and it becomes tough with strong winds, demanding a precisely struck shot to reach the flag. Overshooting the green can lead to a difficult recovery.
Hole 14, a long par 4, ranks among the finest in the country. Strategically placed bunkers guard the dogleg, and the undulating fairway provides varied stances for the second shot. The small, elevated green offers a challenging test of iron play.

Although the ocean has not been near The Royal Adelaide for more than 10,000 years, the course still retains a links-like character, similar to Royal Lytham & St Annes. Each hole on the course offers a unique challenge, with varying lengths, hazards, and elevation changes.
