REDESIGNED FOR THE FUTURE

In 1998, Glenelg Golf Club underwent a major redesign. Neil Crafter and Bob Tuohy replaced kikuyu fairways with 'Santa Ana' couchgrass and redesigned three holes each year, completing the project by 2004. The redesign introduced sod revetted bunkering, enhancing the course’s links character and boosting biodiversity. Native flora was incorporated into the new design, creating habitats for local wildlife. As a result, the club's national ranking surged from 93 in 2004 to 32 in 2024.

Course Layout and Futureproof Design

Glenelg Golf Club features an 18-hole par-72 championship course that spans over 6,100 meters. The course is characterized by its rolling fairways, strategic bunkering, and meticulously maintained greens that provide a true test of skill for golfers of all levels. Each hole offers a unique challenge, requiring both accuracy and strategic thinking to navigate the coastal terrain.

In 2022, Glenelg Golf Club started a four-year renovation by Crafter + Mogford Golf Strategies. The plan includes redesigning six greens, refurbishing putting surfaces, rebuilding bunkers, and upgrading irrigation. New tees, reduced rough areas, and indigenous plantings will also be added.

Signature Holes

Several holes at Glenelg Golf Club stand out for their design and challenge.

The 8th hole is one of the course’s most breathtaking, featuring dramatic bunkering, rolling terrain, pine trees, and water that collectively inspire every player. The elevated green is masterfully designed, with a large bunker on the left ready to catch errant approach shots.

The 11th hole is widely acknowledged as one of the most difficult par 3s on the course. This notable hole is of moderate length and ascends Pine Hill to one of the largest natural dunes in the Adelaide Plains.

Immaculate Conditions & Biodiversity

Glenelg Golf Club is renowned for its impeccable course conditions throughout the year. The greens are fast and true, providing a consistent putting surface that rewards well-struck shots. The fairways are lush and well-manicured, ensuring an enjoyable and challenging round for golfers. The natural coastal landscape enhances the course's beauty and provides a serene backdrop for a memorable day of golf.
In addition to the turf quality Glenelg Golf Club has been working towards creating a more sustainable and biodiverse course. They have undertaken a wide range of projects which aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals and were finalists in the 2023 National Banksia Sustainability Awards.
