PANORAMIC VIEWS OF THE CITY
Mount Osmond Golf Club stands out with its unparalleled panoramic views of Adelaide. Perched on a hillside, it offers a breathtaking backdrop of the city and surrounding landscapes. On a clear day, you can see as far as Cape Jervis to the south and the Yorke Peninsula to the west. The course’s challenging layout complements the stunning scenery, ensuring a truly exceptional and memorable golfing experience.
Course Layout and Design
Mount Osmond Golf Club features a par-70 layout that spans over 5,934 meters. The course winds through undulating terrain with tree-lined fairways, providing a challenging yet rewarding experience for golfers. Most golfers underestimate the course, thinking that its short length means it can be overpowered. This is far from the case. The course is tight, tree-lined, and demands precision off the tee. Our advice is to leave the driver in the bag; finding the fairway is crucial to scoring well.
Mount Osmond is a delightful course that encourages creativity and shot shaping. Its small, undulating greens create memorable pin placements. A useful tip: the break usually falls toward the ocean—trust me, you’ll appreciate this.
Signature Holes
One of the highlights of playing at Mount Osmond Golf Club is the breathtaking views of Adelaide and the Gulf St Vincent from several vantage points on the course.
The par 4, 3rd hole, once a modest par 5, is now a formidable challenge. The second is a long, slightly downhill approach to a small green. Daunting new bunkers on the left add to the challenge, making this hole one to enjoy.
Enjoy the stunning views as you approach the par 4, 7th hole, a short dogleg left that’s reachable with a long, accurate drive. However, there’s danger with out-of-bounds on the left and a large dam on the right. Playing conservatively is the smart choice, but egos might push you to take a risk.
A Fascinating History
The Mount Osmond Golf Club’s history is a testament to Mr. Sydney Melbourne’s vision and perseverance. Without his determination, this prime location, 400 meters above sea level, might have become part of the Adelaide Hills residential zone. Notable figures in the club's history include E.W. Holden, the first Club President who later became Sir Edward of Holden car fame, and Sir Donald Bradman, who was Club Champion in 1935 and 1949. During the war, the clubhouse served as a convalescent hospital and from 1927 to the 1950s, sheep were grazed and penned on the course, with the revenue helping to fund course maintenance.
